Environmental Policy

We are resolute and uncompromising about managing the resources of the planet in a sustainable way and minimising the impact of our activities on the environment. Our Environmental Policy can be downloaded here. Thanks to our active carbon reduction initiatives, our use of renewable energy sources through Energia and our support for high-quality certified carbon offset projects, we are proud to have been named Ireland’s first fully certified Carbon Neutral Coffee Company by The CarbonNeutral Company. Our carbon-neutral certificate can be downloaded here.
The announcement, at Bewley’s Café Grafton Street, was attended by the Minister for the Environment, Heritage & Local Government, Mr. John Gormley, T.D., with Síofra Campbell, Chairman and John Cahill, Group Chief Executive, Campbell Bewley Group.
Our active carbon reduction initiatives have included many practical actions which have had a significant cumulative effect on reducing our carbon emissions. These actions have included:
- installing motion sensors for lights in meeting rooms and corridors.
- reducing the wattage of certain light fittings.
- installing separate electricity metering in various departments to better understand usage patterns.
- shutting down personal computers automatically at night.
- insulating all roasting equipment to reduce gas usage.
- segregating all waste in the facility, including green coffee bags, pallet wrap and restaurant waste, to enable recycling, composting and suitable disposal.
- using recycled materials for packaging cases.
- photocopying using the “double-sided” setting.
We are certified to ISO14001 (environmental) in recognition of our pursuit of excellence in all aspects of our business. Our ISO certificate can be seen here.
