Our Initiatives

Bewley’s had the original vision to be the very first Irish company to seek the Fairtrade Mark ten years ago and we have continued to champion Fairtrade principles in coffee and tea procurement at home and abroad. Today we are among the biggest supporters of Fairtrade Fortnight and we are by far the largest supplier of Fairtrade coffee to the Irish market.

We also support Rainforest Alliance – a non-profit organisation leading international conservation programmes. Rainforest Alliance certification combines the economics of good farm production with better trading practices to secure improved livelihoods for farm families and workers, and improved ecosystem conservation.

Bewley’s was also a founding partner in the Traidlinks Initiative which promotes the engagement of Irish business in commercial and socio-economic development in the developing world. Traidlinks emerged from an advisory forum of Irish companies established by Development Co-operation Ireland – the Third World aid division of the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs.
