The Art Of Cupping
We all have our individual tastes and preferences. Some people curl up in front of a warm fire, put on a movie with their favourite cuppa at hand and drift away. Others like to socialise and chat around a pot of their favourite brew.
The art of tea cupping is a process of tasting and evaluating the quality of tea leaves and teach us about the different varieties and qualities of tea. Even tea from the same shipment, estate or batch can differ in taste so cupping is an ideal way to ensure quality and consistency.
How It’s Done
- After receiving tea batch samples, our Master Blender physically inspects the actual leaf size and the quality of each.
- The term cupping is used to determine the difference in teas in quality, taste, aroma, briskness, body and colour.
- He tastes each batch in our very own cupping room to avoid distractions.
- Cupping similar teas and comparing them against each other enables him to determine best value when making purchases.
- Once the teas have been tasted, selected and purchased, they are shipped from origin and our Master Blender will determine the actual blends to ensure consistency.
